This side imaging image is of a rock point which is man-made.
This rock point is from Devils lake, ND which recently rose and flooded many acres of land.
This image is what it looked like from the air before the water rose. the image is from a Doctor Sonar map chip.
This video is footage from my Aqua-Vu of the tip. Good place to fish?? And somebody left their beer can, bad boy! 30 foot deep and thick ice so not much light for the camera.
Side imaging shows really nice images but how about the real deal and see what it really looks like.
This image shows the shadow of a tree very well even though the tree shows up poorly.
This Aqua-Vu footage shows what the tree looks like with the rocks nearby.
I use sonar to find fish every time I go out but sometimes the fish can hide. Two good examples are boulders and steep drop-offs. The sonar beam is reflected off the bottom on steep drops and off the boulders and the fish can’t be separated.
I drove over this drop-off that had boulders and didn’t see any fish with either the Humminbird or the Lowrance.
I stopped on the edge and used the Spot Lock feature of my Minn Kota trolling motor on the edge and dropped my Aqua-Vu camera down and found these crappies but not just here but each time I moved along the edge there were more crappie.
Even the down imaging couldn’t separate the crappies from the boulders while I was sitting over them.
Notice the crappies are very close to the boulders in the video.
They did bite and they posed for the camera before being released (I had fresh walleye back home).

Side imaging produces nice images of how boulders really look like and I use it to find key spots that I miss with 2D and down imaging sonar.
This image is a boulder reef. On this image the biggest boulders are next to smooth bottom. This also means there is probably a dropoff next to the boulders. Walleyes like transitions, big boulders and dropoffs so I have 3 key ingredients to start my hunt for groceries for my famous fish tacos. I don't see any fish but fish are difficult to see in boulders since they also show up as white.

I get questioned about how to use an underwater camera in summer when the algae bloom. The images aren’t as good as spring and fall but I can still identify the species. I use my Aqua-Vu Multi-Vu Camera System attached to my Lowrance Gen 3 with the optional video in power cable so we can all view the secrets of the deep on the Lowrance! Sometimes it is too much fun and I forget I am fishing. Yesterday the fish weren’t biting and I dropped the camera but there was a big algae bloom on my lake and I couldn’t see below 12 feet well. I looked up and my bobber was down with a 21 ½ inch walleye. Nice thing about bobbers is you don’t have to pay attention and you can still catch them.
I was wondering about these fish since I was hunting bluegills and dropped the camera on another dark water lake. The images are poor but I was able to identify them as perch. Too bad they were too small to fillet! Perch are one of my favorite fish to eat.
The images show the school of perch and the short weeds.
I use the camera to identify what I am seeing on the sonar since I teach sonar I need to be as exact as I can when i say that looks like _______.
